Who Is Will Clower?

Will Clower, Ph.D. earned his doctorate in Neuroscience by recording hundreds of brain cells (one at a time) to understand how the nervous system controls movements. He continued his studies at the Institute of Cognitive Sciences in Lyon, France, where he accumulated enlightening stories and interviews from neighbors, friends, chefs, and doctors about the French cultural rules of diet.
In The Fat Fallacy: Applying the French Diet to the American Lifestyle, Clower offers common sense cultural habits as a solution to the severe problems Americans have with their weight and health. While we fret with new plans, gimmicks, drugs, surgeries, and miracle food additives, an entire country of slim and healthy people eat rich sumptuous foods each day. If we simply use the French diet as a model, we will achieve their thin and healthy results. Even better, you end up eat eating sumptuous foods, just like them.
As a neuroscience historian, Clower has done extensive work searching behind the scenes to explore how science changes its mind about what it believes. Now looking into nutrition, he sees a failing fat free paradigm of conflicting data and precious little consensus about dietary advice. Until science finally settles on a new paradigm, we need to step back, see what successful cultures do … and then just do that.
Dr. Clower enjoys presenting the nutritional, social, and political science of the French and American dietary attitudes in a way that everyone can understand. Since the release of his book in September 2001, he has been a constant presence in radio, television, and print media across the country.
When not traveling, speaking, and overseeing The PATH, Clower enjoys cooking for his wife, daughter, and any guests that pop by. Hobbies include reading and karate, for which he will be testing for his Black Belt in October 2004.
